Together for improved health care and less animal testing
VitalTissue gives human residual tissues that become available after surgery a new purpose as valuable material for scientific research. This way VitalTissue contributes to the health of the citizens of the Netherlands. VitalTissue has no profit motive.
Our goal? Making human residual tissues accessible for scientific research through a network of participating hospitals, thereby accelerating medical innovations, speeding up development of better medicine and reducing the dependence on animal testing.
VitalTissue. This is how it works
Often, not all tissue that is removed in surgery is needed for diagnostics and/or follow-up research. This residual tissue is usually destroyed. That is a pity, because human residual tissue offers great opportunities for scientific research to improve and accelerate drug development. VitalTissue makes this fresh tissue accessible to researchers in The Netherlands for existing and the development of new experimental models that better match human biology. As a consequence progression in medical research will be accelerated and dependence on animal testing will be reduced.
